Russkie-Smashers / Chi-Com Crushers LARS OF MARS "Terror Weapon" Conclusion

Art by Allen Anderson
...he was heading for Manchuria to stop a mad Soviet scientist from unleashing a super-weapon that could freeze anything!
After facing several deadly devices, Lars uses his ability to travel at light-speed...
Written by Jerry Siegel, illustrated by Murphy Anderson, this was the cover-featured tale from Ziff-Davis' Lars of Mars #11 (1951), the second (and last issue) of the series!
BTW, the cover artist is Allen Anderson (no relation to Murphy)
And, Allen also did the cover to the second (and last) issue of Ziff-Davis' Space Busters...which was illustrated by Murphy!
Weird, huh

Russkie-Smashers / Chi-Com Crushers LARS OF MARS "Terror Weapon" Part 1

...they just return in the next issue working for different Commies, as the guy who doesn't just play a Martian on TV, but is a Martian playing an actor playing a Martian on TV while fighting crime in real life (got that?) discovers...
What Next?
Will Lars Stop Raskov?
Will Raskov Stop (and/or Kill) Lars?
Be Here Next Monday for the Astounding Conclusion!
You'll note the Communist Chinese were illustrated in a non-cartoony manner, unlike the overly-caricatured Japanese in most World War II comics and animated cartoons!
(The unfortunate lemon-yellow skin-tone wasn't artist Murphy Anderson's choice, I'm sure.)

Chi-Com Crushing with The Duke! CRAZY, MAN, CRAZY! "Bloodshot Alley"

Technically, this is a Cold War adventure starring the legendary John Wayne...
...and though Blood Alley didn't have a comic adaptation, it did have a never-reprinted comic parody...penciled and inked (and possibly written) by none other than Jack (King) Kirby!
Warning: May be NSFW/NSFS due to ethnic stereotypes common to the era.
Appearing in Charlton's Crazy, Man, Crazy V2N2 (1956), this piece makes us wish Kirby had done some serious John Wayne comics and/or even more humor work!

ChiCom-Crushers COMMANDER BATTLE AND THE ATOMIC SUB "Payoff Battle!"

I'd tell you, but the scripter did such a good job synopsizing the story, I'd be foolish to try to compete...
...BTW, I'm sure I saw this plot reused on Voyage to the Botom of the Sea in the 1960s!
Written by Richard Hughes and illustrated by Ken Landau, this never-reprinted tale from ACG's Commander Battle and the Atomic Sub #5 (1955) was the second and last issue of the anti-communist direction the series took.
The book continued for two more issues, which changed direction yet again, as the Atomic Sub battled flying saucer-riding aliens!
But there are a couple of solo short stories featuring individual Atomic Commandos battling Commies of various sorts, so you haven't seen the last of them in this category!

Don't worrry, we'll check out the rest of the team as the story goes along...
Tomorrow:
PayOff Battle!
Written by Richard Hughes and illustrated by Ken Landau, this never-reprinted tale from ACG's Commander Battle and the Atomic Sub #5 (1955) was the second issue of the new anti-communist direction the series took.

ChiCom-Crushers COMMANDER BATTLE AND THE ATOMIC SUB "ChiCom Deception"

Its Americans vs The Red Chinese!
(Gee, just like real life!)...
...as Commander Battle and his Atomic Commandos grapple with various Communists, not just Russkies!!!
Tomorrow:

Russkie-Smashers/ChiCom-Crushers AVENGER "One Man War!"

...let's look at how one of our favorite Russkie-Smashers was also a ChiCom-Crusher in a story (from 1955) that shows an amazingly-similar concept!
With both the North Koreans and the Red Chinese threatening the world...again...we believe it's only fair and right that we add them into the weekly rotation of Smashers, Crushers, and Clobberers, especially since most of the characters we've been re-presenting fought them along with the Russkies!
In this tale from Magazine Entertainment's Avenger #3 (1955) by writer Gardner Fox and artist Bob Powell, the Russkies are supplying the ChiComs with the armament and tech, while today the roles are reversed as technologically-superior Red China provides tech and armament to a struggling Russia!
Note: there are historical tie-ins, since the Russkies supplied the North Koreans with aircraft and pilots during the Korean War, and now the NKs are supplying ex-KGB guy Putin with armaments against Ukraine.
In addition, the Red Chinese assisted the North Koreans with arms and troops during the Korean War.
Technological Note: All the Asians (both good and bad) in this story have a skin tone of 50% Yellow!
While it's an improvement from the "bright lemon" 100% Yellow used during the Golden Age, it's still not quite correct!
Next week: another of our Russkie-Smashers shows versatility as a ChiCom-Crusher or NoKo-Clobberer!
