Russkie-Smashers OPERATION: PERIL "Time Travelers in 'Nostradamus!' "

This Wild Series From the Cold War Era...
...which appeared in the AGC adventure anthology Operation: Peril combined Russkie spies, time travel...and the prophecies of Nostradamus!
Operation: Peril was a multi-genre anthology featuring on-going strips about time travel (as seen above), a hard-boiled private eye (Danny Danger), and high adventure in the Pacific (Typhoon Tyler), as well as a historical short story in each issue.
Though Time Travelers didn't appear on the first few covers, by issue #4, they took over the cover spot until their final appearance in #12, after which the book changed focus and became a war comic for the remainder of the run.
But the Russkie spy aspect in TT only lasted for a couple of issues!
This premiere tale from Operation: Peril #1 (1950) was written by Richard Hughes and illustrated by Ken Bald.

Russkie-Smashers COMMANDER BATTLE AND THE ATOMIC SUB "Day in the Life of an Atomic Commando"

Did you know the leader of the Atomic CommandosCommander Bill Battle, was...
...an ex-spy, not a Navy officer?
Was it really wise of President Eisenhower to give command of America's first atomic submarine to a guy with no military, much less naval, training or experience?
Talk about on-the-job training!
This never-reprinted backup tale from ACG's Commander Battle and the Atomic Sub #3 (1954) was produced by series creators Richard Hughes (writer) and Sheldon Moldoff (illustrator).
There are a few more "Day in the Life of an Atomic Commando" shorts featuring other members of the team fighting various Commies.
We'll run them from time to time.
Trivia: there was another Bill Battle, who not only had his own comic book from Fawcett, but was even more of a Commie-Crusher than Commander Bill Battle!
...However, "The One-Man Army" fought only Koreans!
Also, since his series ended after only four issues in 1953, when Fawcett closed their comic book division, the character name was available for anyone to use!

Russkie-Smashers CONFESSIONS OF THE LOVELORN / MY ROMANTIC ADVENTURES "Communist Kisses" / "Iron Curtain Romance"

Wednesday is Valentine's Day...
...and we're about to prove that True Love can conquer anything, even Russkie brainwashing!
Appearing during the height of anti-Commie fervor in ACG's Confessions of the LoveLorn #56 (1955), the tale by currently-unknown writers and artists was reprinted in ACG's My Romantic Adventures #108 in 1960...with only one change...the title!
Did the newly-created Comics Code Authority insist on the change?
We'll never know...

ChiCom-Crushers COMMANDER BATTLE AND THE ATOMIC SUB "Payoff Battle!"

I'd tell you, but the scripter did such a good job synopsizing the story, I'd be foolish to try to compete...
...BTW, I'm sure I saw this plot reused on Voyage to the Botom of the Sea in the 1960s!
Written by Richard Hughes and illustrated by Ken Landau, this never-reprinted tale from ACG's Commander Battle and the Atomic Sub #5 (1955) was the second and last issue of the anti-communist direction the series took.
The book continued for two more issues, which changed direction yet again, as the Atomic Sub battled flying saucer-riding aliens!
But there are a couple of solo short stories featuring individual Atomic Commandos battling Commies of various sorts, so you haven't seen the last of them in this category!
