Written by Bob Haney and illustrated by Pat Boyette, this never-reprinted tale from DC's Blackhawk #243 (1968) ended the series which had continued uninterrupted from #9 (when they took over Quality's Uncle Sam Quarterly in 1944) to this issue!
Note: Blackhawk was one of several of Quality Comics titles to continue ongoing publication as DC purchased the company's assets in 1956, including all published and unpublished material!

Russkie-Smashers BLACKHAWK "Mission Incredible" Part One

The final (1968) adventure of their original run returned the "Magnificent 7"...

...(and yes, they had that nickname before the now-classic 1960 Western movie) to their Russkie-smashing 1950s heyday!

Written by Bob Haney and illustrated by Pat Boyette, the Blackhawks are put in an unusual situation since their jet aircraft were likely destroyed during the battle on Blackhawk Island, and the still-operational Hawk Kite was too slow and obvious to airlift her out!
(Though it would've been cool to see them utilizing one of their mothballed, WWII-era XF5F Grumman SkyRockets to do so!)

Russkie-Smashers BLACKHAWK "Mutiny of the Red Sailors"

Can you really, truly, ever trust a Russkie...

...especially when you want to do so because you fervently believe they're trying to do the right thing?

When DC bought the Quality Comics line (including both already-published stories and unpublished material) in 1956, Blackhawk was one of the few titles they continued without interruption.

DC's first issue, (#108, from which this tale is re-presented) was published the month after #107, Quality's last issue!
As a result, much of the first few DC-published issues featured stories already in various stages of production.
This particular tale, by writer Robert Bernstein, penciler Dick Dillin, and inker Chuck Cuidera had been completed before the transfer.
You'll note it's a straight adventure/espionage tale, without sci-fi/fantasy elements.
Once the inventory was exhausted, DC dropped the Communist/Russian plotlines until the very end of the original series...which you'll see next week!

Russkie-Smashers BLACKHAWK "Where Will They Attack Next?"

Blackhawk started out as an Axis-smasher during World War II.
Here, in this never-reprinted tale from Quality's Blackhawk #39 (1951) is where he became a Russkie-Smasher!

Penciled by Reed Crandall and inked by Chuck Cuidera, the first anti-Russian story involved a super-weapon (the Skybase).

The Russians were shown to be as ingenious as the Germans and Japanese in producing technology equal to...or even surpassing...our own!

Russkie-Smashers BLACKHAWK "Battle on the Moon"

From a lone Black Cobra to a flock of Blackhawks...

...there's no end to the lineup of Commie-crushing Russkie-Smashers who will fight for freedom anywhere on Earth...or beyond!

Though the writer of this never-reprinted tale from Quality's Modern Comics #99 (1950) is unknown, it's illustrated by penciller John Forte and inker Chuck Cuidera.
The "Dark Knights", as they're often referred to, went whole-heartedly after Russkie and Chinese Communists during the post-World War II days of their Quality Comics run.
But, when the characters were continued by DC after Quality closed up shop, their other opponents, mad scientists, aliens, and the occasional ex-Nazi, took center stage, along with newly-created super villains until the middle-aged aviators became superheroes/spies in the Swinging '60s as shown

 HERE!

But, Quality's two books featuring the "Ace Aviators", Modern Comics and Blackhawk have more than enough Russkie-Smashing stories to keep this feature going for months to come, so they'll be popping up again...
Trivia: John Forte is better-known to present-day comics readers as the primary artist on the first few years of The Legion of Super-Heroes' run in Adventure Comics, while Blackhawk co-creator Chuck Cuidera remained on the strip after DC took it over, almost to the very end of the Silver Age run!
Plus, Cuidera inked Dick Dillin (who penciled almost all the DC Blackhawk stories) on Dillin's Hawkman run after Blackhawk was cancelled!
And, in an ironic turn, that the Blackhawks adopted uniforms surprisingly-similar to the Russkies' outfits in this story when they entered a "scientific adventurer" phase in the early 1960s...

..yet nobody noticed!
(Of course it was over a decade later...)
